In 1948, Fond du Lac County people, like Gerald Holzman, seemed to be more “history minded. ” It was Wisconsin’s 100th birthday and the County did not have a County Historical Society.
Armed with William Titus of Fond du Lac, Charles Hill of Rosendale and Samuel Pedrick of Ripon, Holzman called the first meeting on November 17, 1948 with approval and encouragement by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin.
About fifteen people from the county attended this meeting and formed the core around which the Society’s membership was built. They decided to organize what is now known as the County Historical Society. This would protect individuals within the Society and the future donors of the historical artifacts.
